Sustainability & Values

Sustainability as a Mindset

Natural Resources

We use exclusively mineral-based raw materials. Our clay is free from artificial additives, lead-free, microplastic-free, and vegan. Unlike many conventional clay production processes, our clay does not contain bone ash.

Recyclable Packaging

Our products are packaged exclusively in cardboard. Completely without plastic, foam, or synthetic filling materials. What arrives at your door is consciously reduced and fully recyclable.

100% Green Electricity

Since 2019, 100% of the electricity used for our production has come from renewable energy sources, supplied by the French green energy provider Enercoop. Hot water and operational equipment are powered by the monastery’s own solar installations.

European Production

All materials and tools come from Europe. The entire manufacturing process, from raw material to finished ceramics, takes place in Taizé. We produce locally, not globally.

Electric Kilns

The transition to modern electric kilns is a matter close to the brothers’ hearts. Work is already being carried out using electric kilns, and some initial batches have already been produced.

Until the entire production can truly be manufactured to the desired quality using sustainable production facilities, the gas kilns are still necessary, as they have proven themselves through decades of use.

Less Footprint, More Meaning

For us, sustainability means more than a label. It begins with everyday decisions, with consistent simplicity, and with respect for nature, people, and materials. Our pottery is part of a monastic community whose daily life is shaped by mindfulness. We extend this mindfulness to the natural world as well.

In Taizé, ceramics are created that are not only beautiful and durable, but also made with intention.
